This Best Ever Healthy Banana Bread recipe is super easy to make, gluten free, dairy free, and packed with the best banana flavor!Best Ever Healthy Banana Bread in a loaf pan

So last week Caleb and I were casually chatting when he completely blew my mind by telling me that he had never had banana bread with chocolate chips in it until he had met me…… like what??? At first I was incredibly shooketh and wondering what’s even the point of banana bread unless it contains chocolate chips? Luckily I quickly came to my senses and realized I really couldn’t decide that I didn’t like something (ie banana bread sans chocolate chips) until I gave it a try.

Well folks thank goodness I did give it a try because I didn’t know what I was missing! Turns out leaving out the chocolate chips (while I still love them, OBVIOUSLY) really amps up and highlights that tasty banana flavor. Banana bread is just one of those magical foods that everyone loves and makes everything better; I know you’re going to love this recipe!

What makes this Banana Bread “Healthy”?

  • This banana bread is sweetened using coconut sugar which is much less processed than regular white sugar. In addition to that, the amount of sugar is less than traditional recipes. Don’t worry you won’t even miss it, the super ripe bananas make for the perfect sweet banana flavor!
  • I swapped out whole huge sticks of butter for a reasonable amount of coconut oil.
  • Lastly, unlike traditional recipes which call for more refined all purpose flour this recipe uses a combination of almond flour and one to one gluten free replacement flour.

What’s the best way to store Healthy Banana Bread?

This bread is moist so it will only keep for a couple days at room temperature. Store it in the refrigerator for five to seven days, or in the freezer for about three months or so. If you store it in the freezer, I recommend slicing it into individual slices beforehand.

Lets take a look at some of the key ingredients in this Healthy Banana Bread:

Bananas – Can’t have banana bread without bananas! Make sure you use very ripe, spotty bananas! This will ensure that the bread is perfectly moist and sweet.

Eggs – I haven’t tried replacing the eggs with flax or chia eggs but if you do let me know in the comments!

Coconut Oil – My favorite substitute for other oils and sometimes even butter.

One to One Gluten Free Flour – I’m a gluten free gal myself, but you could certainly swap the gluten free flour for regular all purpose flour.

Almond Flour – One of my favorite gluten free flours to cook with! Adds a moist and denseness to the bread while still being light and fluffy.

Coconut Sugar – I love the lighter taste of coconut sugar and I’m a fan of it being a little on the “healthier” side as far as granulated sugars go. However this could easily be swapped for white sugar or a lighter brown sugar.

Description

This Best Ever Healthy Banana Bread recipe is super easy to make, gluten free, dairy free, and packed with the best banana flavor!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium bananas, mashed (use super ripe, spotty bananas)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup one to one gluten free flour
  • 2/3 cup almond flour
  • 1/3 cup coconut sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F. Line a loaf pan with parchment paper (or spray with non-stick spray) and set aside.
  2. In a small bowl whisk together the bananas, eggs, coconut oil, and vanilla.
  3. In a large bowl mix together the gluten free flour, almond flour, coconut sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and stir to combine. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Notes

  1. 4 bananas contain a good amount of moisture so make sure not to under-bake this bread!
  2. Feel free to replace the one to one gluten free flour with regular all purpose flour.
  3. I stuck with a plain banana bread but chopped walnuts or chocolate chips would make great add-ins!
