This super-moist, hearty loaded banana bread is like an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie and banana bread all rolled into one! The perfect breakfast or snack!
Sometimes it really is just the little things in life, ya know what I mean? Like when 2 middle age guys show up to your apartment gym to do a Zumba video together 😂 #Precious #YouGoBoyzzz. That or a fresh batch of my new favorite banana bread aka this perfectly delicious Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Banana Bread!
Thick, chewy, and perfectly moist (I know, I know, people don’t like that word but gosh darn it, it IS moist!). Plus, LOADED with chocolate chips. I would ask how many chocolate chips is too many chocolate chips but we all know the limit really does not exist.
What makes this Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Banana Bread healthy?
- It doesn’t contain any refined sugar, I used maple syrup instead!
- I swapped out the traditional sticks of butter for unsweetened applesauce.
- Lastly, unlike traditional recipes which call for more refined all purpose flour this recipe uses a combination of rolled oatmeal and one to one gluten free replacement flour.
What’s the best way to store banana bread?
Since this bread is made with multiple bananas, it will only keep for a couple days at room temperature. Store it in the refrigerator for five to seven days, or in the freezer for about three months or so. If you store it in the freezer, I recommend slicing it into individual slices beforehand.
Lets take a look at some of the ingredients:
Bananas – Can’t have banana bread without bananas! Make sure you use very ripe, spotty bananas! This will ensure that the bread is perfectly moist and sweet.
Unsweetened applesauce – No oil is required in this recipe thanks to applesauce! If you don’t have applesauce, melted coconut oil should also work.
Maple Syrup – If you don’t have maple syrup you can replace it with any liquid sweetener, honey, agave, etc.
Eggs – I haven’t tried replacing the eggs with flax or chia eggs but if you do let me know in the comments!
Old Fashion Rolled Oatmeal – I don’t recommend using steel cut or instant oatmeal, stick with the old fashioned rolled oatmeal.
One to One Gluten Free Flour – You could certainly swap the gluten free flour for regular all purpose flour if you’re not gluten free.
Chocolate Chips – The chocolate chips are totally optional! If you’re not a fan you can certainly leave them out or add in something else like chopped nuts.
