Sticky Asian Turkey Meatballs

Sticky Asian inspired turkey meatballs! If I had to choose just one genre of cuisine for the rest of my life I honestly think I would have to go with Asian food. I could probably eat rice and noodles every day and the SAUCES. Oh my word, so addicting!

This particular sauce is a little bit spicy, a little bit sweet, and all around delicious! Plus it’s fun to change it up and cook everything in the oven instead of the classic stir fry approach. This whole meal comes together in about 30 minutes so there’s really no down side. I know you’re going to love it! (Bonus: I personally find rolling anything into balls (aka turkey meatballs) to be slightly therapeutic ….. anyone else or am I the only weirdo in the room?)

Description

Easy homemade Asian inspired sticky turkey meatballs, tossed in a delicious sweet and spicy sauce. Serve over steamed rice topped with mixed veggies. So dang good!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound of ground turkey
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 head of broccoli, cut into florets
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp sriracha
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • Rice to serve (I like Jasmine)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll the ground turkey (season with a bit of salt and pepper first) into tablespoon-size balls (will make 15-20 meatballs) placing them on one side of the prepared baking sheet.
  3. Add the bell pepper, broccoli, and onion to the other side of the baking sheet and toss with a drizzle of oil, salt, and pepper (you may need to use a second baking sheet). Transfer to the oven and bake for 15 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, combine all the ingredients for the sauce (chicken broth, soy sauce, sriracha, honey, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and garlic powder) in a small saucepan. Set over medium heat and bring the sauce to a simmer. Simmer 5-8 minutes, until the sauce thickens.
  5. Pour about half the sauce over the meatballs, tossing to combine. Return to the oven for 3 minutes.
  6. Serve the meatballs, veggies, and remaining sauce over bowls of rice.

Notes

  1. If the sauce isn’t thickening up as much or as quickly as you would like try adding in 1 tsp of corn starch or arrowroot powder.
  2. I chose onion, bell pepper, and broccoli but feel free to change it up with whatever veggies you want!

This recipe is great! Super simple, easily adaptable, and pretty healthy. I added carrot to the vegetable medley, didn’t have hoisin sauce so improvised with teriyaki sauce, and used ground chicken instead of turkey. The meal turned out really tasty! I did add a bit more honey then the recipe called for, and then did add the cornstarch to the sauce as noted underneath the recipe to thicken the sauce- worked like a charm👌🏻. This recipe is also quick- I made this on a Monday night and it only took me 30min. Thanks for an awesome dinner recipe to add to the rotation!
